Hacker GeoHotz is well known by people who have jailbroke an ipod in the past, but that's not what has been getting him the attention as of late. Nope, it's more of the fact that he is in middle of a court battle with 10 or so of Sony's lawyers.
The battle is more or less over the fact that the guy opened up the consoles software and let people do custom firmwares and other crazy shit to their PS3's. Why does Sony care? Probably because people are abusing his tactic to pirate their video games.
So, what's the big deal? Well, apparently he wants to actually win the court case(he won't), and to do it he expects people like you and me to donate a shit ton of money so he can purchase more lawyers to fight them with and pay court fines..and that's crazy, RIGHT?
I mean, what kind of scum would ask you to donate money to a cause that won't do anything other then keep the person out of financial troubles? We all have money issues, but WE have to deal with them ourselves, so why should he be any different?
Oh, and by the way, you can donate to me by pressing the following button:
not really, though. |
this is something i could get behind but i cant see myself sending him money
ReplyDeleteI can respect him for what he did, but, Ill never use his work, so Im not going to help him financially. Good luck to him though!
ReplyDeleteI've got to give him credit for taking on Sony, but I've got no vested interest in his fate. I see what you did there.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't have a chance.
ReplyDeleteI must disagree, this guy is the re4ason people like you and me use more advanced tech. without adventurers like him, where would you get ANY of your music, pictures, and programs? are you aware that companies like sony, microsoft, intel, etc will HIRE people like this boy to reverse engineer and make better previously made technology. this is progression and the legal system (or it's minions) seek to regress it to only a consumer state. imagine a future where you could create a program, with ease, that would solve your daily conundrums.
ReplyDeleteGo GeoHotz!
ReplyDeleteI have money troubles too. Can you spare some change? ;)
ReplyDeletehe's not forcing anyone to donate.. its cause of people like him that I get free stuff. so good luck to him.
ReplyDeleteWait so are you the hacker>
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like this guy is the man for outsmarting them
ReplyDeleteHe can't expect anyone to give him money, it's like giving food to the homeless and then expecting them to pay you.
ReplyDeletesony has too much money and too many resources to lose this case. however, the PS3 piracy industry will forever love him for what hes done.
ReplyDeletei didn't steal any video games, so i don't owe him shit.
ReplyDeletekids probably screwed. i think what he did was creative, and inventive.
ReplyDeletesuch bullshit, stiffling innovation
ReplyDeleteHaha no thanks. His mistake, his problem!
ReplyDeleteFollowing and supporting
Garage Zoku
I like when the little guy fights the big giant.
ReplyDeleteI would donate to this guy, he's put so much effort into some of the best devices we have.
ReplyDeleteHe will definitely lose that court case. I like what he was doing with the ps3, but he should have known that it would lead to something like this.
ReplyDeleteDamn, sucks for him. Hope him the best guys!
ReplyDeleteSo he's asking people who pirated video games to donate to him? Good luck to him, I wonder how that'll work out.
ReplyDeleteNot big on smartphones anyways.. david vs goliath!
ReplyDeleteI disagree with this post. Guys like him are just modifying the hardware which they legally bought and without folks like him, we wouldn't be able to do the things we do on our consoles and PCs.
ReplyDeleteI would donate to him and I suggest others do the same.
I like the concepts but I'm not interested until I have a second ps3.
ReplyDeleteI would donate to him if I had the extra money on hand. Good luck to the guy though. Doesn't seem like he did too much wrong.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's all about piracy as usual.
ReplyDeleteCool blog, Imma follow :)
